COMMUNITYCONNECTION

Prudential’s Charitable Foundation Serves the Community
Agents, board members chart a PATH to recovery for LA’s homeless population

As a result of fundraising efforts made by agents from Prudential California Realty, The Charitable Foundation recently donated nearly $5,000 to People Assisting the Homeless (PATH). The funds were used to procure a brand new, restaurant quality stove for PATH’s Hollywood Center location, which houses between 60 and 80 residents.

Last fall the board of The Charitable Foundation cooked dinner for the residents at PATH’s Hollywood Center, initiating what has become a long-term commitment. Since then groups of approximately 10 to 12 agents and board members, from Prudential’s Los Feliz, Encino, Calabasas, Sherman Oaks and Beverly Hills offices, have been cooking dinner at the center on an ongoing basis. The company’s Pasadena team is scheduled to visit on November 8.

Natalie Hill, director of The Charitable Foundation, commented that, “I would like to thank all of our agents and board members for volunteering their time for such a worthy cause, especially Barbara McDaniels, an agent and board member from the Calabasas office, and Greg Bender, a residential specialist with the Los Feliz office.”

Hill noted that McDaniels was instrumental in working with PATH to find the best possible stove to fit their needs. She also indicated that Bender has volunteered his time to serve as “Kitchen Manager” for nearly all of the foundation’s efforts to cook at the center.

“Our agents and board members have really enjoyed their experiences cooking for and serving the residents of PATH. We are happy to have formed an ongoing relationship with PATH and appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the remarkable model they have created to break the cycle of homelessness,” adds Hill.

Backed by the dedicated agents at Prudential, The Charitable Foundation supports local organizations that promote health, education, community, and the environment. Officially known as Prudential’s The Charitable Foundation/Agent Community Outreach organization, the charity has provided over 1000 grants, in excess of $4 million, to make a beneficial and constructive impact on the community.

Prudential Supports Housing Efforts

The dedicated Realtors at Prudential California Realty’s San Diego Central office partnered with Habitat for Humanity recently, to help build a house for a needy family in San Diego. Sales agents, former clients, and staff from the office, as well as manager Carol Cianfarani, worked to improve living conditions for families in San Diego.

Since 1995, Prudential Financial has led Global Volunteer Day, an annual event that showcases the company’s ongoing commitment to community service. To ensure the initiative makes a broad and wide-ranging impact, employees are encouraged to independently identify the charity or cause that will benefit from their time and effort. This strategy has also increased volunteer participation by making the global event relevant to local communities.

Cianfarani, with the agents and staff in her office, chose Habitat for Humanity because the organization’s goal to provide housing is similar to the mission that drives Prudential California Realty. “It’s unfortunate, but for many people in San Diego, owning a home is an impossible dream,” said Cianfarani. “Our goal is to make that dream a tangible reality for at least one deserving family.”

Known for her commitment to philanthropy, Cianfarani once made it her personal mission to construct a new domestic violence shelter. Her fundraising efforts resulted in the construction of Carol’s House, a safe haven for victims of domestic violence. It has been in operation for over five years.

On the first Global Volunteer Day, 5,000 employees participated in 100 projects. Last year, approximately 32,000 people from 50 states and more than 11 countries donated their time and energy to support communities across the globe.

Prudential Sponsors Community Baby Shower

To provide assistance for more than 300 pregnant women who live below the poverty level, Prudential California Realty’s La Costa office sponsored a community-wide baby shower. Contributions ranging from blankets, formula and diapers, to baby shampoo and monetary donations, were packaged and prepared for deserving local families by the dedicated staff and Realtors from the office.

Since 1995, Prudential Financial has led Global Volunteer Day, an annual event that encourages employees to independently identify the charity or cause that will benefit from their time and effort. This strategy has both increased volunteer participation and facilitated the event’s broad and wide-ranging impact on the global community.

Sales agents and staff from Prudential’s La Costa office, together with manager Diane Hogencamp, chose to partner with Project Concern International, a charity organization dedicated to low-income families. The goal of Project Concern and Operation Baby Shower are to assist underprivileged children and reduce the percentage of negative birth outcomes experienced by impoverished families in San Diego.

“We were thrilled to participate in Global Volunteer Day, because of the unique opportunity it offers Prudential employees, clients, and the general public,” said Hogencamp, adding that “it reinforces the idea that we are living in a global community.”

The Global Volunteer Day, which showcases the company’s ongoing commitment to community service, began with 5,000 volunteers who participated in 100 projects. Last year, approximately 32,000 people from 50 states and more than 11 countries donated their time and energy to support worthy causes and charity organizations around the world.

More information about Project Concern International can be found on the web at www.ProjectConcern.org. For specific details about the baby shower, or to contact a qualified Realtor, please call 760-632-4000.

Prudential Escondido Provides Housing

Prudential California Realty’s Escondido office will be collaborating with Habitat for Humanity and the National Association of Realtors on Friday, October 16th, to build homes for low-income residents of San Diego. The dedicated Realtors and staff from Prudential’s Escondido office, as well as manager Cliff Helbock, are inviting clients and the general public to join their efforts to improve the quality of life for underprivileged people in San Diego.

Since 1995, Prudential Financial has led Global Volunteer Day, an annual event that showcases the company’s ongoing commitment to community service. Allowing employees to personally select the worthy cause or charity that will be the recipient of their time and effort has increased volunteer participation by making the initiative locally relevant. This strategy has also facilitated the event’s broad and wide-ranging impact on the global community.

Together with fellow agents and staff from her office, Realtor Donna Davis chose Habitat for Humanity because the organization’s goal to provide housing is similar to the mission that drives Prudential California Realty. “Unfortunately, the cost of owning a home in San Diego makes it prohibitively expensive for many people,” said Davis. “Our goal is to make the ‘American Dream’ of home ownership a tangible reality.”

Participants from Prudential Escondido will be framing walls, hanging drywall, painting, and laying tile, to provide affordable housing for impoverished residents of San Diego. They will be joined by individuals from all levels and business groups within the Prudential family, as a part of a large-scale endeavor to exert a positive influence on the world.

On the first Global Volunteer Day, 5,000 employees participated in 100 projects. Last year, approximately 32,000 people from 50 states and more than 11 countries donated their time and energy to support communities across the globe.

OC Chapter's Charitable Foundation Delivers a Win for Local Nonprofits

A recent meeting of the Orange County chapter of Prudential California Realty’s The Charitable Foundation created an excellent opportunity for the charity to provide donations for local nonprofits, plan upcoming fundraisers and discuss future strategies for serving the community. During the meeting, a donation of $2000 was presented to the Laguna Beach Boys and Girls Club and donations of $1000 each were given to the Glennwood Housing Foundation and the Inside the Outdoors Foundation.

“All of these charities share a common vision, to enrich the quality of life for children in our community,” said Natalie Hill, director of The Charitable Foundation. “It’s very gratifying to think that our efforts will make a positive impact on the current health and future well-being of so many deserving local children.”

Serving children in Laguna Beach, Aliso Viejo, and the surrounding communities for 58 years, the Laguna Beach Boys and Girls Club works to promote youth development by utilizing a philosophy based on positive reinforcement. The Glennwood Housing Foundation was established with a mission to provide safe and affordable housing for young adults with special needs in southern Orange County.

By partnering with the Orange County Department of Education, the Inside the Outdoors Foundation nurtures the natural curiosity of children and deepens their connection to the natural world, bringing life to concepts within the environmental and social sciences.

“Having opportunities to better the lives of children in our communities has made our ongoing work with The Charitable Foundation extremely fulfilling,” said Jon Cook, president and CEO of Prudential. “We are very excited about the programs and events we have planned for the short term and look forward to many more years of supporting charitable organizations.”

Spirit of Giving

On Friday, December 5th, 2008, twelve Prudential California Realty Agents and Foundation Members participated in the Volunteer Center of Orange County, Spirit of Giving Program. Each Prudential volunteer read a book on sharing to a combined classroom of 40 children and discussed with them the value of sharing and giving. A total of 60 volunteer readers participated in 21 schools in Orange County, reading to 2600 low-income 1st graders. The Volunteer Center provided each of the 2600 children with new backpacks filled with school supplies.
